Etchings

Intaglio means “to inscribe” and involves etching or engraving a plate that is inked so that the inscribed line carries the ink. I work with both etched metal plates and clear plastic drypoint plates. My process involves hand drawing and multiple revisions to produce the desired images. The plates are printed using great pressure onto moistened rag paper with a printing press that I built myself.

I keep my editions small, up to 25 numbered proofs from one version and I am not concerned with consistency within the edition and let the prints evolve as I vary ink density, wiping, etc.
